"Why do you like travelling?" "What's so special about travelling?" are questions I'm frequently asked when people find out I travel a lot. I get excited to answer any question as long as it involves travel because it allows me to rant about what I love most.
Travel is so much more than just the glamour social media makes it out to be.
For me, travelling is like breathing life. It excites my core and inspires me to challenge myself to be the best version of myself. I get butterflies in my belly when I think about the next destination to travel to. Travelling has allowed me to have cherished memories and thrilling experiences that have shaped me.
The reasons why people love travelling are a long list with added benefits and in my books, there are no limitations.
What does travel mean to me, and why do I love it?
My favourite watchword to people has to be "Travel more!"
Travelling is amazing and there's an extent to which I can emphasise and curtail the reasons why people love travelling.
Unlike the first time when I boarded an aeroplane, which terrified me, it has become my favourite part. The mood is set by the cool temperature in the aeroplane, a glass of wine to ease any last-minute nerves, and the sound of the aeroplane as it takes off.
Another moment that comes close is the pilot's announcement of an update on the temperature and situation of our destination before landing. It makes me giddy like a child high on sugar, especially if it's my first time visiting that location.
I could go on and on about why I love travel and possibly even write a book on my travel experience but let's dive into the reasons why people love travelling.
This blog post will highlight a few major reasons why people love travelling and not be a limitation to other reasons people might have.
1. EXPERIENCE NEW CULTURES
Travel allows you the luxury of broadening your horizons and experiencing and learning about new cultures that are bound to stick with you for a lifetime. Learning about a new culture can be quite fascinating when you observe the contrast with your own culture.
Experiencing new cultures can be so fun. You learn new things and traditions that will mostly blow your mind, broadening your view to expectations you've never imagined. Experiencing new cultures makes you exposed, so you get to see the world differently and make the world a better place.
2. ESCAPE FROM REALITY
At least once in your life, you'll get tired of the mundane daily routine that can leave you feeling trapped or stuck.
You get to escape your reality when you travel, which is more than enough reason to love it. It could be a weekend getaway or a long vacation where you can immerse yourself in beautiful scenery that will leave you feeling rejuvenated.
Sometimes I desperately want to get away from my daily life and unwind in a different city, sipping wine on a terrace with an impeccable view and my phone turned off. I love that I get to pick up my bags when I can and escape reality.
It cannot be overemphasised how refreshed travel will make you feel with the freedom that comes with it and I could go on and on for hours on why I love travelling.
3. MAKING MEMORIES
I always embrace a new experience because of how precious it is and it has helped me broaden my horizons. Creating a memory of a destination you've always admired or a tourist attraction you've looked forward to experiencing is something you'll forever cherish.
A memory is something that cannot be bought, but travel will give you that striking memory, which is enough reason to fall in love with it. I have about a million stories to share about the memories I have from the places I have visited and pictures to remember the wonderful times I had, so take this as a sign to join the bandwagon of people who love travelling. There's plenty of room.
4. LEARNING NEW THINGS
Learning goes beyond the four walls of a classroom, and experience is known to be the best teacher.
It's beautiful to browse about a destination and learn things through the internet but actually visiting and learning new things firsthand is absolute bliss. As an extrovert, top on my list is learning new things and meeting new people. I love a good conversation with a local who enlightens me on things I would have never known and makes me feel comfortable experiencing new adventures.
Learning about a place from your room and through books is a whole lot different from experiencing it and learning in real time. You get to learn new languages, skills, lifestyles, and fascinating facts in the region you're visiting. The best thing you'll get to learn on your trip is yourself, which is a major benefit of travelling and enough reason to love travelling.
5. FOOD
The opportunity to taste and cherish the culinary delights various destinations have to offer is a personal favourite of mine. I love trying new things and trying new foods is simply the best.
You definitely need to carry along a healthy appetite to taste the galore of local delicacies and be willing to try different things. Countries like Italy, Japan, and South Korea have amazing cuisines for you to try out, and trust me, your belly will thank you for it.
With thousands of delicacies the world has to offer, travelling gives you the experience to indulge and relish the various foods you come across. Food is a universal language, and travelling allows you to delve into delicacies that provide pleasure to your taste buds.
6. UNWIND
Travelling has many therapeutic benefits that make you fall in love with it.
Escaping reality and fully unwinding as much as you wish to find that inner peace that your body craves and deserves. If you work nonstop, give yourself a break to unwind when you travel and fall in love with it just as I have, and your body and soul will thank you for it.
By disconnecting from your mundane life and immersing yourself in a new environment, you'll welcome the soothing sound of the ocean waves, the beautiful beaches and views, the scent of rainfall or winter, or the serenity of a camp retreat, creating the perfect escape for you to relive any pent-up stress.
If the rave of travelling doesn't have you in a chokehold yet, this is a sign for you to give in and experience the beauty that comes with travelling and also fall in love with the art.
People love travelling for several reasons; from the thrill of a new adventure, creating new memories, and experiencing new cultures, to many more, they all contribute to the overall allure of travelling.
Choose that destination, book that flight ticket, and discover the allure of travelling.
