ABOUT (FULL STORY)
Hi, I'm Bethel, a travel enthusiast and consultant who left my career as a medical doctor to pursue travelling as a full-time job to help people solve their travel-related problems and find ultimate satisfaction in touring the world.
My journey began with an itchy feeling to take a chance at exploring the world, and I finally took the step when I went on my first tour of New York City, USA. Travelling through London, UK, New York City, and Amsterdam, Netherlands, fueled the thrilling experience and adrenaline rush of being in a new, fun environment. I was encouraged to take the bold step of visiting other destinations as a solo traveller, and boom! Betqueen, the travel explorer and expert, was born.
Ever since I was little, I wanted to have something more than the mundane life and routine society created for women like me. I wanted something different and took a chance on the path I genuinely craved.
A dream come true would be the best way to describe it but I'd say I'm not quite there yet. With 22 countries ticked off, there are still many destinations I would love to visit, and by the end of this year, five countries will be joining the list.
How did my love for travel begin?
My first trip out of my home country was to Ukraine for my medical school studies. Fun fact: it was my first time on an aeroplane and alone at that. (Was it only you?) I was terrified and excited at the same time that I radiated a newbie traveller vibe.
The thrill was out of this world and I would like to think that was the moment I considered touring places like a professional.
My first world tour was to New York City, USA, which actually came as a random thought to just apply for the visa and hope for the best. It wasn't really planned to the T and with the universe on my side, my visa was approved .
I was thrilled to be touring New York City with my favourite person in the world, my mom. I was over the moon to tick off a destination on the travel bucket list I had just created.
I was obsessed!
It was a dream come true to experience such a beautiful destination and visit all the tourist locations. Times Square and Manhattan being my favourites and doing many fun activities. My experience with New York City was like love at first and it has always had a special spot in my heart. I'd visit over and over again and never get tired.
My next tour was to Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is actually a fun story because it was an unexpected opportunity. The church I was attending was hosting an event in the Netherlands and I was interested and thought, Why not? I summoned the courage to speak to my pastor, expressed my interest in travelling for the event and asked him to help me as I wasn't experienced with the whole travel process.
Fast forward to a few weeks later and my heart was shattered into a million pieces when I found out through social media that the church had travelled to the Netherlands without informing me.
It hurt differently to be left behind but did I let that discourage me? No!
It only fueled my determination to handle the whole visa application and travel processing myself. why not?
I cannot believe that my visa was approved and I headed to the Netherlands joyfully with a peep at my walking step.
My trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands, was my first solo trip, and perhaps it was what marked the beginning of my travel exploration and deep love for it. The diverse culture, new language and mannerisms, and fascinating locations were a welcome discovery that showcased the true beauty of travelling.
The best part of travelling has to be researching your next destination, cool spots to check out, and fun activities to do. Experiencing the tourist attractions that you'd only see in pictures, which do no justice to them and finally being able to see it is an amazing experience.
While I was in school, I travelled to different locations as I had already fallen in love with travelling, and a friend mine asked me for travel-related advice and asked me to help find a cheap hotel she could stay in. This was the moment that defined the next course of my life, as other people began coming to me for travel consultation.
I was happy to help and it gave me a sense of fulfilment when I helped someone with their travel plans successfully. It brought about the idea to start my own travel company.
It actually started off as a hobby and slowly grew into a full-time career for me after I finished medical school.
My soul searching journey sparked the dream to travel around the world and inspire others to take a chance just like I did and immerse themselves in the world of travel.
One memorable experience in all my years of travelling that has stuck with me was the time I visited Larnaca, Cyprus. I didn't have any big expectations when I visited the place, but I fell in love with how beautiful the city was, the beaches, the views, and how captivating the historical sites were.
It felt surreal to experience the places I had heard about in a Bible story when I was a little girl, like the church Lazarus built, and the tomb where he was buried. The moment is something I will forever cherish as a Christian and profound lover of Christ. I felt connected to my religion and faith like never before.
I'd say it was an epic soul-searching journey that helped me define my paths and goals, which have helped me come as far as I have. 22 countries and counting—the world better prepare to hear more of me.
My love for the travel industry became so deeply rooted that I decided to do a masters programme in international tourism and hospitality management to learn more about the industry, solve the major needs of travellers, create a safe space to share useful travel tips, and be a guide to new travellers.
As my travel company and my experience in the travel world grew, I got motivated to start my own travel blog where I could provide important information, travel updates and tips, and travel-related news on different countries to keep my readers up to date.
Becoming the go-to person for a wide range of audiences when it comes to travel is one of my wishes. I want to be able to help people solve their travel problems, answer questions, provide advice, and give out exclusive tips that make travelling easier and better.
Travelling is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I want to share with people all that I have learned and share my experiences as an expert.
